Lycoris Radiata

This beautiful fall bloomer goes by many names. Here in Louisiana, it is often called a Hurricane Lily because it blooms as the first heavy rains of the fall began. Another common name is ‘Naked Lady’ because the flower stem emerges before any foliage can be seen. If you grow them in a naturalized setting, you must be careful not to cut the tender shoots down.

As you can see, each stem puts out a number of individual ‘spider’ flowers.  The foliage comes out after the blooms. You need to leave this foliage uncut until mid-spring so that the bulbs will bloom again the next year. Make sure you plant them in a place where you want green foliage – along a border or sidewalk, etc. These bulbs are very hardy and multiply easily.

Bulbs are available for $2.00 each plus tax.
